RESPONSIBILITY

The fashion industry is characterized by overconsumption, pollution, and violation of human rights. At Oriental, we take our responsibility as producers and brand owners in this industry very seriously. We have the collected mission to produce and sell responsible clothing for children, women, and men alike. We define ourselves as a responsible company – not sustainable, as such a thing as a fully sustainable design company does not exist. We act responsibly and transparently towards the environment and people in all we do. The journey towards being 100% responsible in all parts of the value chain requires actions that we are not capable of yet, but future goals are set.

Our designers are determined to create responsible products with respect for the people who made them and the planet we live on. In this way, we wish to do our part to drive the industry towards a more mindful way of producing and consuming clothes. We offer all our customers the opportunity to make more informed choices that will reduce our impact on the planet. Our ambition is to produce long-lasting and quality clothing through great designs.

We need our customers to come along on our journey to reach our responsibility targets. We work to make it as easy as possible for our business customers to make better choices in terms of their choice of yarns, fabrics, garments, packaging, and transportation. We also make sure, yearly, to report transparently on our journey towards responsibility about the progress we are making, and the obstacles we face.

CERTIFICATIONS

We believe in solving problems together and we are committed to working with our suppliers, customers and peers to create more responsible solutions. We
continually adjust our supply chain to fit our requirements. In the process of building a new supplier relation, we only work with partners who are certified
through third party audits.

We are proud to say that our Danish office, Chinese office, and production facility have been GOTS and GRS certified since 2021. Since we have a number of sub-suppliers that are also certified, we can now manufacture GOTS and GRS garments end-to-end.

GOTS is one of the most comprehensive international textile certifications. This certification is focused on the production and processing of natural fibers, such as organic cotton, linen, and wool into fabrics and finished goods. The certification ensures that the fibers are produced and processed under strict environmental, social, and chemical use criteria.

GRS set the criteria for third-party certification of recycled materials and chain of custody. The GRS-certification verifies that a product contains at least 50% recycled content and that all certified entities live up to strict environmental, social and chemical use criteria.

One example of successfully pulling together is the Business Social Compliance Initiative, or BSCI for short, that we joined back in 2008.

The BSCI Code of Conduct is built on the most important international labor standards protecting workers’ rights based on the International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions, the OECD guidelines for multinational enterprises and the UN Global Compact.

The BSCI certification works to improve social performance throughout the supply chain. The BSCI code of conduct has 11 principles that protect human rights, labor
rights, the environment and anti-corruption.

MATERIALS

We aim is to inspire our customers to make more responsible choices. The choice of material is an important factor in terms of the impact a piece of clothing has on the environment. By providing responsible options and using responsible raw materials, we can contribute to reducing the environmental impact fashion has on the planet.

We offer a wide selection of more responsible fabrics to help our designers and our customers make more responsible choices. Garment categories are illustrated in the table here
